We flew to Miami for our first ever cruise and wanted to be there a day in advance to have time to rest and in case of delays. Happily, we were able to spend the night as guests of a new Kimpton Hotel: The EPIC, which is located right on the downtown waterfront and very near to the Port of Miami
Aside from convenience the hotel was luxurious and attractive with a high ceiling, an elegant lobby and stylish modern rooms.
What the kids liked:
-There was a goldfish beside our beds! In a square glass container the little critter swam and gaped and was endlessly entertaining. We were sad to leave him.
-A real flat screen computer! This made both the teenage son and the writer mom very happy. And free internet access was available for Kimpton In touch members.
-Spacious outdoor pools with cabanas nearby–one was free and included a TV and free access to Wii games–my nine year old really loved that as you can imagine.
What the parents greatly appreciated
-The hotel was beautiful, modern and comfortable–with upcale bedding and a ‘green’ approach to decor and recycling.
-The sunken tub and rain-style showerhead in the bathroom.
-The doorbell that allows you to push a do-not disturb button.
-The proximity to downtown shops and malls-mom got lots of bargain shipwear at nearby discount stores.
Not to mention the premium bedding, bathrobes, LCD television , cd/dvd player and the in- room refrigerator
On top of this the staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the workout room was modern and boasted apples, bottles of water and flat screen TV’s. The ones in the machines weren’t working but hopefully that will be rectified soon ( I love to watch tv that is right in the equipment).
The views of the waterfront and downtown area from the large balcony were breathtaking. Altogether a beautiful and relaxing hotel.
TripAdvisor has had a large number of reviews from very happy guests, who have rated The Epic the number one hotel in Miami, For us, the closeness to discount designer stores, the waterfront mall and restaurants was unbeatable. I was able to get lots of cruisewear bargains at Marshall’s Mega Department store and the boys enjoyed checking out all the flamboyant stalls at the Bayside Marketplace–an indoor/outdoor mall with a lot of exotic Miami flavour.
After some of the craziness on the streets of Miami it was lovely to come back to the peaceful simplicity of The Epic.
